Northfield and several other North Shore communities have continued to be hit with burglaries to motor vehicles. The Police Department would like to remind residents to protect themselves from these crimes. Vehicle burglaries typically have one thing in common: something valuable is left in the car. Many burglaries are "crimes of opportunity" and could have been avoided had simple preventative steps been taken. Remember to:
- Lock your doors
- Park in well-lit areas
- Utilize an alarm system
- Keep all valuables out of view
Remember to ALWAYS report any suspicious activity, persons, or vehicles immediately by calling 911. If possible, write down the description of the person and/or vehicle and license plate number. If you discover that you have been a victim of a vehicle burglary, do not touch anything in your car, as it may disturb any evidence, and immediately call the police. If you have any questions, please call the Police Department at 847-446-2131.
