WhatsNewConstruction

The 2017 construction season is underway and there are a lot of exciting projects planned here in Northfield!  During construction there will be times when traffic is impacted and motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes and to plan accordingly.  The Village will provide regular updates and the construction progress can be followed here as well as through the Village's Facebook and Twitter pages.  Click here if you would like sign up to receive email or text notifications regarding construction updates and other Village news.

We greatly appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience.

West Frontage Road:
On April 19th, the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways began a repaving project on the West Frontage Road from Illinois Road to Orchard Lane in the towns of Northfield and Wilmette.  Families who drive to the New Trier Northfield Campus, Stepan Chemical, or Loyola Academy are encouraged to allow extra time and/or to take an alternate route.  The repaving project will take approximately four weeks to complete and is being done to then allow West Frontage Road to serve as the primary detour route when the Happ Road Bridge work is underway.     Questions or comments related to this project may be sent to HWY.supt@cookcountyil.gov.

Happ Road Bridge:
The Happ Road Bridge, just south of the Northfield New Trier campus, is scheduled for replacement in 2017.  Construction is anticipated to start in early June.  Once the project is underway, Happ Road, at the bridge, will be closed to both north and south bound traffic.  All motorists will have to use West Frontage Road as the detour route.   Questions or comments related to this project may be sent to HWY.supt@cookcountyil.gov.

Willow Road:

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) plans to repave Willow Road, from I-94 Edens Expressway to Provident Avenue/White Oak Lane in the Villages of Northfield and Winnetka.  The project includes the removal and replacement of the pavement; removal and replacement of the curb and gutters; drainage structure adjustments and system cleaning; new sidewalks; new pavement markings and raised reflective pavement markers; and new loop detectors.  Work is anticipated to commence this spring.

I-94 Edens Expressway:

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) plans to re-pave and widen out the shoulder of I-94 (Edens Expressway) from Foster Avenue to Lake Cook Road in Cook County.  The work will create a new north and south bound bus lane.  Work is anticipated to commence this summer.

Tower Road:
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) plans to repave Tower Road from Frontage Road to Forestway Drive in the Villages of Northfield and Glencoe.  The project includes the removal and replacement of the asphalt roadway and concrete curb and gutters; new pavement markings and raised reflective pavement markers; new loop detectors; and the bike path removal and reconstruction to bring this into compliance with the ADA.  The project scheduled for the June 16 letting and is subject to the project award and funding by the State.    Work is anticipated to commence this summer or fall.
