This July and August, the Village Hall Art Gallery will be featuring art by Elizabeth Flatt. Elizabeth spent her life on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and expressed herself through poetry for many years before being introduced to painting in 2008.
After losing her husband Bryan in 2000, Elizabeth spent several years trying to find a new direction in life. In 2008, she was invited to a “Canvas and Cocktails” event and touched a canvas for the first time. That evening she went home with her first painting and was hooked! After a couple more evenings of painting with friends, she set up a card table in her home, ordered some materials, and started painting on her own (with the help of Google!).
In 2017, Elizabeth moved to Northfield to be closer to her son and his family, and was delighted to learn about the North Shore Senior Center’s art studio. Before joining the Senior Center, there were months or even years between her painting sessions. Thanks to the Senior Center, she now has a studio where she can paint whenever she wants. She says, “I have benefitted from being surrounded by many talented artists who have helped me as an artist with their loving constructive criticism. I will never be a Picasso or a Rembrandt, but I am having fun!”
Please join us on July 20 for Elizabeth’s gallery opening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Village Hall. You can also view the exhibit any time Village Hall is open, Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM- 4:30 PM.
