In partnership with the Villages of Glenview, Skokie, and Wilmette, Northfield has received two grants to fully fund the Phase II study of the Skokie Valley Trail (SVT). The SVT is a regional trail which, once completed, will stretch from Chicago to Lake Bluff. Before the communities can begin the Phase II study, Northfield must first determine the Trail’s route alignment from Willow to Voltz Road.
Following the Board’s direction at their August meeting, Village staff and engineers are currently reviewing another route that would align the path on the east edge of the Village-owned right-of-way adjacent to the Fields Auto parking lot. This option would leave the “Nature Trail” undisturbed. This option will be reviewed and discussed by the Village Board at their October 20 Committee of the Whole meeting. Out of an abundance of caution and for the safety of our residents, all public Village meetings will be held via videoconference for the foreseeable future.
Check back as the meeting approaches for the engineer’s report and information on how to log on for the meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend online and participants will be given an opportunity to voice their thoughts on the route options. You may also share your thoughts by emailing vgroup@northfieldil.org.
