[ARCHIVED] Northfield Road Reconstruction

WhatsNewNorthfieldRoad

The Village is currently working on reconstructing Northfield Road from Winnetka Road to Willow Road.  The improvements include storm sewer upgrades, the removal and replacement of the deteriorated roadway, curb and gutter, guardrail replacement, driveway aprons, sidewalks, and ADA ramps.  This project is substantially funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), with A Lamp Concrete as the qualified low-bid contractor selected through IDOT’s bidding process.  A Lamp is a respected contractor who has worked in the Chicago suburbs for many years.

Beginning on Monday, September 9, Northfield Road will become northbound traffic only from Winnetka Road. Northfield road will be closed to southbound traffic for the duration of the project and will be detoured to Happ Road.  A Lamp will be removing existing curb, gutter, sidewalks and aprons first and then the existing pavement. Once they have completed removal they will be installing new curb, gutter, sidewalks and aprons, and then they will rebuild the existing southbound lane.  Once they have completed the southbound rebuild they will switch northbound traffic over to that lane and then repeat the process on the existing northbound lane.

Detour signs have been placed to help guide motorists and maintain access to the businesses within the project limits (see attached Detour Route). The contractor will make every effort to maintain local access throughout the different stages of work. Mariano’s will also be accessible from Happ Road at Orchard Lane.  Pedestrian and driveway access will be maintained where possible throughout the duration of the project. Work that impedes access to businesses and/or residents will be coordinated, in advance, on a case by case basis.

Construction will be completed this year.  Your cooperation during this project is sincerely appreciated.  If you have any questions or encounter any problems during the course of the work, please contact the Resident Engineer, Brian Racine (Transystems) at 312-292-0559 or The Village of Northfield Public Works Department at 847-441-3810.  Thank you again for your cooperation.
