[ARCHIVED] Northfield Road Reconstruction

WhatsNewNorthfieldRoad

The Village will be reconstructing Northfield Road from Winnetka Road to Willow Road starting in June.  The improvements include storm sewer upgrades, the removal and replacement of the deteriorated roadway, curb and gutter, guardrail replacement, driveway aprons, sidewalks, and ADA ramps.  This project is substantially funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), with A Lamp Concrete as the qualified low-bid contractor selected through IDOT’s bidding process.  A Lamp is a respected contractor who has worked in the Chicago suburbs for many years.

This notice is to inform you that the contractor will begin installing traffic control devices and initial storm sewer installation the week of June 10th, weather permitting.  Pedestrian and driveway access will be maintained where possible throughout the duration of the project. Work that impedes access to businesses and/or residents will be coordinated, in advance, on a case by case basis. Some of this initial work will require the contractor to control traffic with flaggers, meaning travel through the area will be a little slower than normal.

Once the initial traffic control installation, traffic signal modifications, and storm sewer crossings are complete, the contractor will move into the first stage of the roadway construction. At this time, Northfield Road will be reduced to one-lane in the northbound direction from Winnetka Road to Willow Road. Detour signs will be placed to help guide motorists and maintain access to the businesses within the project limits (see attached Detour Route). The contractor will make every effort to maintain local access throughout the different stages of work. Mariano’s will also be accessible from Happ Road at Orchard Lane.

The completion of this project is anticipated to be in September 2019.

Your cooperation during this project is sincerely appreciated.  If you have any questions or encounter any problems during the course of the work, please contact the Resident Engineer, Brian Racine (Transystems) at 312-292-0559 or The Village of Northfield Public Works Department at 847-441-3810.  Thank you again for your cooperation.
