One of the goals of the Village Board is to bring public art to the community. Our first artistic initiative is a new rotating art gallery in the lobby of Village Hall (361 Happ Road). This gallery is intended to feature art that has a special connection to Northfield. The first exhibit will begin on January 2 and will feature art by lifetime Northfield resident Julia Hagen.
Julia attended Sunset Ridge School and Loyola Academy. After graduating high school, she was enrolled in Boston College as a Pre-Med major. After her first semester, she realized her true passion was for the arts, and made the transition to painting. Hagen transferred to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to pursue painting in 2015, but kept her passion for science and the natural world as a part of her artwork.
Her work is vibrant and dynamic, and aims to capture a visually heightened experience of nature. Hagen graduated from the School of the Art Institute in 2017, and has since been showing work in festivals and small galleries. She is frequently commissioned to create artworks for clients’ homes, offices, and storefronts. Hagen’s work can be seen on her website: www.juliahagenartist.com.
Please join us on January 15 for our inaugural gallery opening from 5:00-7:00 PM at Village Hall. You can also view Julia’s art any time Village Hall is open, Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM-4:30 PM. If you have any ideas or suggestions on how to bring art to our community, please send them to mdefeo@northfieldil.org.
